Portfolio: Education

  • Seven NGOs to provide vital services for children and their families
  • Child and Parent Centres to get wide range of services

Education Minister Peter Collier today announced the seven successful non-government organisations (NGOs) to provide essential early childhood services through the Liberal-National Government?s 10 new Child and Parent Centres.
?

The organisations will co-ordinate a range of services in the areas of parenting, child health and early learning to ensure young children in vulnerable communities are developing well and ready to start school.
?

?The centres are located on the sites of public primary schools - natural gathering places for families with young children.? It will be very easy for mums, dads and carers dropping off children to school to also get advice from health, education, child and family professionals at the same time,? Mr Collier said.
?

?The NGOs have been selected because they are highly regarded and have a great deal of experience and expertise in providing specialist programs and advice for children and families.
?

?This collaborative approach is essential to get young children ready for the learning journey ahead of them.?
?

While each of the 10 centres will be located on a school site, they will support families from neighbouring schools in the area.
?

Today?s announcement is part of the State Government?s investment of $28.8million over the next four years to develop the new Child and Parent Centres and provide grants to an additional 76 primary schools in low socioeconomic areas.
