Vietnam Game Provider Pulls Out Chinese Online Game with Map of East Sea

Vietnam?s biggest online gaming firm has pulled the plug on the Chinese-made game ?ZT Online 2? since it promotes China?s illegal territorial claims over the East Sea. VNG Corporation shut down the game because the game?s map displayed the Paracel Islands ? land claimed by the two neighboring countries. In the now-banned game, the islands in the East Sea appeared to be under Chinese sovereignty. The multiplayer online RPG game which made by China?s Giant Interactive, has been distributed by VNG since 2008. Over the years, the game was updated many times ? but the latest update irked many Vietnamese users, which eventually lead to the game being taken down ?

Though not providing the game would mean big losses for VNG Corporation, it will get tough with its partners who violate agreements in terms of culture, politics, and territorial issues. The number of gamers playing ZT Online 2, or ?Chinh Do 2.0? in Vietnamese, had increased significantly since its launch in Vietnam since 2011. VNG had said there were five servers each hosting 15,000 computers for the game. Vietnamese gamers have come down strongly on this, saying the territorial claim made in the game is ?unacceptable? and VNG made a mistake by not seeing it earlier. The firm also has five other Chinese-made online games, and it is making double check to prevent the same problem will occur. Vietnamese said authorities should carefully check all online games coming from China.

Online game ?Chinh Do 2.0? is very popular in Vietnam.

Island disputes have always been a common issue among the countries around China, and there are no sign that these countries can reach an agreement with the communist nation. So the map becomes the best place for them to declare their sovereignty that no one would make a concession on this. Therefore, the Chinese company has suffered from this issue because they have to use the Chinese map which is prescribed by Chinese law that other countries will never accept. The CEO of Giant Interactive has responded that they are like suffering without having done anything to provoke it (they have to obey the Chinese Law ?) In conclusion, if you want your games or even mobile apps selling well in oversea market, don?t build or use the in maps of China.
