SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) ? On September 22nd, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco is celebrating the grand opening of the ReStore, a new home improvement store driven by volunteers that accepts and resells new and gently used building materials, appliances and furniture to the general public at a fraction of their normal retail price. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco to fund the construction of homes in San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo Counties.
KCBS? Connie C. Kim talks to Executive Director Phil Kilbridge:
Community Corner: Nonprofit Home Improvement Store Opens In San Carlos
?It?s a great way to bring in earned income revenue to support the mission of our organization which is to build affordable home ownership in the areas we serve,? said Executive Director Phil Kilbridge.
Not only does it raise revenue but it also removes waste from landfills, Kilbridge adds.
The store is fully stocked by donated materials only that include construction materials, lightly used appliances, furniture, and antiques. Volunteers are always needed to organize the supplies and staff the store.
?Most people know about Habitat as swinging hammers or hanging dry wall out on the construction site, but for those who think that that may be backbreaking work, they can work in the ReStore.?
Habitat for Humanity has been building homes and helping families for the past 36 years and to date has built over 500,000 homes serving 2.5 million people worldwide.
